25 Dumb Questions We've Been Asked by Americans

"So, how long does it take you to go from Italy to Europe?"
"Excuse me?"
"Yeah, how long does it take you to travel from your city to Europe by car?"
"Dude, how long does it take you to go from Utah to America?"
"But that doesn't make sense."
"There you go."
Yes, this conversation really happened. Yes, someone really thought Europe was just another state that you could reach from Italy by car. No, I didn't slap them in the face with a geography book, even though I should have.
It's not a news that Americans don't really stand out for their smartness, but you would think that they'd know at least some third grade geography. Well, not all of them.
Teenagers, here, are completely clueless about whatever is outside the greatest and only America. The big difference between Italians and Americans is that when you ask an Italian teenager if he likes his country, he is most likely to say that Italy sucks and that he wants to travel the world, but if you ask an American if he's proud to live in the US, he will probably put his hands in the air and scream "'Murica, the best country on the planet!" (It really happened.)
For this pride, since they have been told that America is THE country, they are not taught about anything else besides what relates to the US which makes them ask exchange students a lot of stupid and funny questions.
So, here's the list of the most stupid ones. (I just want to clarify that we are not judging anyone with this article, our Italian friends, themselves, have been asking us stupid questions about America too, like "Do they really have lockers at school?". We only want to make people laugh so peace out!)

  1. Do you speak English with your friends in Italy? Okay, now tell me, why in the world would I speak English with my Italian friends? Have you not heard of Italian?
  2. Do you guys speak European? Yeah, just like people speak Oceanian, Asian and American.
  3. Are you the same age in Italy? No, time goes faster over there so when I'm in Italy I'm 22 years old.
  4. Do you live near the Eiffel Tower? Yeah, the famous Italian Eiffel Tower.
  5. How did you visit Rome since it was destroyed a lot ago? ---> No comment for this one, it got me speechless.
  6. Is Italy a city?
  7. Do you guys speak French in Italy? Yeah just like Americans speak Chinese here.
  8. Do you guys have windows in Italy or is it all like the Colosseum? We do not, so when it rains we just put some buckets under the holes in the walls that we have instead of windows.
  9. Do you have only boats in Italy?
  10. Did you know that pizza is actually from New York? Dude, I'm ready to punch you in the face, pizza is Italian, which is why it has the colors of the Italian flag (green, white and red).
  11. Does google exist in Italy?
  12. The capitol of Italy is Paris, right? Yeah and the French one is Venice.
  13. Do you guys only eat pasta and pizza?
  14. Do you guys kiss in the same way? Like really, how many ways of kissing do you know?
  15. Do you have showers over there? Okay dude, I live in Italy, not in the woods.
  16. Are boys cuter in Italy? ---> Totally
  17. What is Netherlands? Is it the place where Peter Pan lives? Oh yes, it's full of lost boys too.
  18. So, like I know you speak Italian but... Do you know how to write in Italian? No, I actually write in Russian at school.
  19. Are American songs translated into Italian? Yeah like someone would spend time to translate them...
  20. But how do you watch tv shows? Are they in Italian or English?
  21. Oh, so you guys don't have American football over there, how come? Dude, it's called American for a reason.
  22. Do you eat cats or dogs? Yes, unicorns too.
  23. Are your friends all from the mafia? Yeah so don't make me mad or I'll call them and give them your address.
  24. Do you have American dollars too? Totally, everyone uses American dollars... Maybe we should change the name into World dollars.
  25. So you're from Italy, do you know *name of a girl*? She was a Norwegian exchange student last year! Yes, people in Europe all know each other. You know, it's not like there are 743,1 millions people living all around it.
Besides making fun, we really appreciate when Americans ask us questions, because it means that they are actually curious to know a little more about what is outside their country, and we are always glad to answer and to talk about Italy for a while. Those were only 25 questions, we are going to post more in the next few weeks, so keep reading the blog and let us know what you think about it.
